FileFix 1.21
------------
1.21
----
This version is released to fix a couple of minor bugs. Also, version
1.20 was only announced released in Denmark - this version is an
"international release".
1.20
----
This version does not contain all the features that I'd have liked
it to. Instead of waiting perhaps another 6 months before
releasing it, I decided to do it now - 1.20 is more usefull in your
hands than it is just occupying bits on my harddisks.
Everybodys wishes to FileFix are noted down in my TODO file, and
will be considered for future versions.
Upgrading
---------
If you have been a user of any of the betaversions of FileFix, you will
want to delete 'filefix.scn' from your netmail directory. For everybody
else, it is just a matter of replacing your old FileFix.Exe with the
new one from this archive.
Slow development?
-----------------
Yeah. I do have a full-time job (sometimes more than full-time), I
do run a BBS with 400+ users and 20+ points, I'm sysadmin on a
Unix system for DKUUG, and I do spend a fair amount of time reading
FidoNet and UseNet mail. That was only the computer-oriented
activities :-)
I only work on FileFix and my other utilities when I have the
spare-time for it, and when I feel like it. So if you feel that
development is going too slow for you, I'd suggest that you
run some other software.
Call for comments!
------------------
Many users have asked me to incorporate some sort of security feature
in FileFix, so that the origin of files could be verified in order
to avoid 'fake' files to be processed. How do you (yes, YOU!) want
this to work? I want your input on this matter, because I cannot
find a good way to implement it. Lets call it a contest. The
person with the best suggestion, gets a free beer from me whenever
we meet in person :-)
Simple rules:
1) Must be backwards compatible with older FileFix'es and other robots.
2) Must work with _all_ mailers, not just your personal favorite.
3) Your suggestion must not require that FileFix inspects the mailer logfile.
If I do not find a decent method, I will simply not incorporate any
security feature in FileFix. So if you want this feature, send a detailed
description of as to how you feel it should be done.
